Within my photo essay I had decided to photograph Southbank and other areas around London to show the reactions of audiences and entertainers. Also there are a few varied images to show how London reacts with the constant strain of tourism within the capital. I had chosen this topic, as I wanted to capture decisive moments enabling me to capture specific moods and a sense of reality. To capture these images I used the cannon 450D SLR. I made sure that when I was taking had varied amounts of shutter speeds, ISO’s and varied focus on the subject, enabling me to be creative and create manipulate images. Exposure and depth of field was also used within my images. However in some cases this was not a success as shown under technical practice. As now times have moved on since Eadweard Muybridge and one of the first high shuttered photographs now shutter speeds are used to capture a decisive moment or manipulating an audience. For example I had used low shutter speeds within image 2 and 4 to capture the effect of the bubble. I was able to do this because of the slow motion of the bubble in which it travelled. I also did this to enable light to capture of the bubble, as due to the weather the light was minimal. Although I did experiment with using high shutter speeds I wasn't able to keep a steady hand to capture the image. Although within my technical experimental photos I was able to capture images using high shutter speeds the photo that I took were out of focus causing them to be not used. The aperture is clearly shown in image 13 where I aimed to focus only on the coke can that was left on top of the gateway to china town as I set my focus to just 8,clearly identifying the depth of field. However another example in which I used a low aperture is within image 12 as I took a picture of a tourist in which I focused directly onto her hand with a focus setting of only 5.6 causing the rest to become unfocused but still have meaning. The ISO I had struggled to experiment with as the environment we was in had low levels of light meaning that the low levels of ISO that was used wasn't suitable for the environment. However I did use in some aspects the ISO as within image eleven I had put the ISO level to 400 as I had gained extra light from the surroundings. I gained my influences from photojournalists such as Henri-Cartier-Bresson from photos such as spain 1933 in which he captured a decisive moment through a hole within a run down wall.I was influenced through his work work as i wanted to capture decisive moments through the observational mode that Henri-Cartier-Bresson followed within his time at magnum photos.I also had inspirational ideas from Cornell Capa who created the famous image of the decisive moment of a solider being shot. Both these influential photojournalists created inspiration for myself which is clearly seen through my work. EditingEditing photos; as i had many issues with the weather changing constantly my ISO was in many cases off causing my images to be dark and lacked reality. An example of this is through image 13 which clearly from below is very dark and aspects of the photo are actually hidden. In order to gain the image back i had to edit the photo creating artificial light.I done this by changing the exposure adding back light and reducing the blacks.this effectively gave me the image back. However i also changed the radius of the reds turning them down as if to create daylight.

After analysing my photos i believe that I could have done a lot better and decided to create a second photo essay but compared with my first photo essay decided not to experiment with the camera to however use a limited amount of ISO and concentrate mainly on the depth of fields i found this to be very artistic, I believe I took many of my inspiration from Zoriah Miller and Eddie Adams who focus on the decisive moment and capturing reality. As it was a sunny day I managed to capture my images at a ISO of 200-600 and I varied my shutter speed to capture movements as shown with the waitress's arm but also use shutter speed to create a freeze frame in which the movements are all frozen. To highlight how creative i was within this photo essay and my first photo essay click on the link which will direct you to my steps.
