BACK                                                                            Lecture Review

 

Week 1: Introduction to module. During this week we were informed of what we should expect to cover and undergo during this semester. We discussed the pre-production process within a documentary. We also formed our production group and began thinking of ideas.

Week 2: In this lecture, we discussed the different documentary modes and were introduced to photojournalism. We covered topics such as Decisive moment VS. Staged ontology’s and was introduced to photojournalists such as Henri Cartier Bresson. This week we also covered the different modes and styles of documentary which would later be added to our yola website.

Week 3: We did not have an official lecture this week but worked individually on our Yola sites.

Week 4: Introduction to 450d cameras. This week we were trained on the 450d canon cameras. This would be the camera that we were to shoot our photojournalism assignment on. Learnt about the responsibility of using these cameras and all the technical elements required for different scenarios. These technical elements include things as ISO, shutter speed, depth of field, and auto-focusing.

Week 5: Final cut pro workshop. We were taught how to edit film and sound through final cut pro. This workshop gave me skills to adjusting film footage and sound during the post-production process.

Week 6:  Editing through advanced Photoshop. His week we had a workshop on how to edit our images through RAW processing. We were taught the various way of altering an image through editing.

Week 7: Second final cut pro-workshop. This one focused on editing 2 clips using the multi- clip function. We also worked with audio levels and green screen editing.

Week 8: We had a lecture on the requirements for our documentary pitch in week 12. We went through what we were expected to cover.

Week 9: Watched parts of Nick Broomfield’s documentary “Biggie and Tupac.” We explored various styles of filmmaking and looked into “signatures” that are incorporated into films.

Week 10: No lecture due to strikes. As a group, we met up and went though the information for our documentary pitch.

Week 11: Had a group tutorial with Karin to finalise our idea and how much progress we were making towards the presentation and our documentary film. We were able to get any question answered and were advised to have multiple primaries for our film.
